Words for Warriors by Sam Sorbo
Words for Warriors by Sam Sorbo is an essential tool for our homeschool. It’s recommended here because this glossary of words equips families with the terms used by socialists and the toxic liberal left. It addresses the reality of “double-speak,” and if we’re going to understand what’s going on we need to be in the know. Let me give you a peek inside this valuable book.

How We’re Using Words for Warriors in Our Homeschool
From news, to following legislation, to everyday conversations, we’re all constantly bombarded with the repetition of particular words. It takes awareness to keep our “alertness muscles” fit—helping us notice those particular words! To exercise our “brain muscles,” we’re doing the following things:
Making A List And Checking It
We’re keeping track of familiar-to-us words and pulling out Words for Warriors to make sure we understand what’s really being said.
Also, we’re jotting down new-to-us terms and referring to Words for Warriors. Not only do we learn the meaning, but in some instances a bit of history is addressed. An example of a new-to-us term and its history is “dark horse.”
“Dark horse, noun: A long shot or underdog candidate. The phrase originates from the world of horse racing. Trainers and jockeys would keep a particularly fast horse from public view, training it “in the dark.” They then entered it in the race at quite favorable odds, thereby maximizing their payoff.
“Dark horse took on political meaning in 1844 . . . ”

Writing Assignments
Our junior high and high school students are assigned to incorporate terms in Words for Warriors in their relevant writing assignments, comparing and contrasting them with biblical worldview definitions. These assignments might be fictional, research papers, or practicing writing respectful letters to our legislators.
Games
Our younger students are learning particular words and playing a “spot it” game we’ve made up. When we catch on to any of the learned terms being used, we say, “Spot it!” We’re also making a game out of quizzing them on the terms they’re learning.
Words for Warriors offers both political terms and their history (at least for some of the words). Furthermore, we appreciate the “telling-it-like-it-is” approach that Sam Sorbo offers.
Meanings: They Are What They Are
We simply need people to speak plainly and get to the point, and Sam accomplishes this. She doesn’t beat around the bush. For example, the definitions of big government and climate change explain:
“Big government, Political term, “An overbearing government system that interferes in the everyday activities of its constituents. . . “
“Climate, Noun: An alarmist effort to control the population through fear-mongering and falsified data. How do we know this? Because it was called global cooling, then global warming, then climate change. . .”
Sam also addresses some presuppositions, and tosses in a little humor.
Words for Warriors‘ definition for climate change is spot on, and Bill Gates recently confessed it’s not a threat to humanity after all.
Given Bill Gates’ announcement, apparently the term and meaning of climate change are now archived. It’ll at least be something we can point to when talking with our grandchildren about “back in our day when . . .” Of course, we’ll be sure to point them to the absolute truths of God’s Word such as, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” -Genesis 8:22 (ESV). God’s Word is absolute and reliable. I’m so glad Bill Gates is catching up with that truth. Let’s be sure to pray for him to walk in the absolute truths of God’s Word, and surrender his life to Jesus Christ.
We appreciate having a single resource consisting of political terms, their meanings, some word history, and wit. Use Words for Warriors (<<< not an affiliate link) to help prevent your children from the indoctrination and deception found in the political sphere. It’s a perfect addition to our homeschool library, consisting also of Webster’s American Dictionary of the English Language, 1828 and the Student Worldview Dictionary!
