Types of Readers
For the purpose of this article, I’m referring to a specific book. However, the information is applicable to any book. In any case, recently, I learned that there are three types of readers. Depending on which type you are will result in whether or not you successfully maneuver the red books, Teaching and Learning America’s Christian History and Christian History of the Constitution. While parents can still refer this book a little at a time throughout the year, much can be missed. Either way, it’s important for the Christian homeschool for parents to read the content.
The Challenge With Large Books
Having had this book and the other red books from FACE for several years, I can say that I have yet to benefit from all of their content. In the hope that I’ll eventually make it through them, I’m persuaded that I may never completely do so. That is to say, unless I’m intentional about reading through them completely I never will. With this in mind, it largely depends on one’s goals with these books. For fear that you’ll not pick them up at all, I much rather encourage you to continue reading here and there as you’re able to.
A Doable Plan
But for the individual who does want to read the truths and beauty in these books from cover to cover, here is a plan to help you attain that goal. And it truly is simple and doable. That all being said, understand that you may still read a little here and there. Because of the amount of rich content in these books, you’ll want to take some time to process it. To say nothing of the fact that you’re busy with every day life. So, I have a plan.
The Statistics on Readers
Let me share with you:
- If a book is 100 pages or less, 60% of readers finish it.
- And if a book is 200 pages or so, 20% of readers finish it.
- But if a book is more than 200 pages, 3% of readers finish the book.
Wow! Statistically, only 3% of readers would ever finish any of the red books. Understanding these dynamics explains so much to me why there seems to be few people interested in reading them or so few who have made it from the front to the back of the book. I’ve struggled with it, too!
So, if you find that you place more in the 60% of readers group vs. the 3% of readers group, I have a great idea that may help you!
The Plan
Let me show you:
The Teaching and Learning America’s Christian History book is 366 pages long. This can feel overwhelming to the average reader type. However, if you take the number of pages in the book and divide it into fourths, it makes the book readable for the 60% reader type!
