The Science and Art of Geology
The Science and Art of Geology
Hi friends! I’ve been quiet because I’ve been working on a behind the scenes collaborative project with another brand. And, I’m so thrilled to be able to share about who I’m collaborating with: Patrick and Vicki Nurre of Northwest Treasures. To be sure, it’s an exciting time to be revealing the Science and Art of Geology course! We’ve been working on this project for quite some time now.
Today’s Concerns
There are so many concerns! One area of concern is the attack on Biblical worldview in the discipline of science. This is even so in the subject of geology. The Bible is the foundation of every subject because God is the Author of each subject. And, as Patrick Nurre states:
*
“Geology is the foundation of all other natural sciences.”
*
Needless to say, the Bible is the foundation of Geology!
If you’re like me, you want your children to have a solid foundation in God’s Word and to be able to think and reason Biblically in all areas of life and learning. Plus, you’ll want them to know how to research and reason—according to God’s Word—independently.
.
Why the Collaboration
One of the reasons I’m collaborating with the other brand is because of the strong Biblical worldview that this Geologist has. He has strengths, experience, and knowledge that he can bring to the table that I don’t have. And, he teaches from a Young-Earth, Global-Flood Biblical worldview.
Art is a wonderful way to help immerse students in the subject of geology. Coupled with an approach founded upon Biblical principles, these lessons allow for students to exercise Biblical reasoning and writing abilities in both geology and art. It opens up a fresh way of seeing things: 1. What spiritual lessons may we learn from God’s geology; 2. what artistic things can we learn?
.
What the Science and Art of Geology Courses are Like
There are currently two Science and Art of Geology course bundles. This is what to expect:
Bundle 1:

Notebook Pages—there are notebook pages for both the geology and the art lessons.
.
Bundle 2 (to be released at a later time):

Art Videos—art lessons founded upon Biblical principles and Biblical reasoning; practice watercolor techniques and creative thinking before starting the final projects; watercolor project videos on each of the geology topics.

.
Affordability
All families will need these supplies:
- Access to a printer to print the notebook pages,
- A student grade watercolor cake pallet for each student (unless you want them to share),
- White acrylic paint,
- Student grade water color paper,
- Scissors for practice sheets (if parents desire to prepare them),
- A few paint brushes. Specifically, the paint brushes that are used are a No. 2, No. 16 round, No. 2 flat, and a No. 6 Flat.,
- Of course, a container of some sort for water and water color paper is needed,
- And, graphite tracing paper (optional).
Watercolor and white acrylic are the only mediums used in the Bundle 1 art lessons. Bundle 2 has the option of using ink art pens for a final project. In this way, it helps to keep the costs down.
Another way to keep the cost down is that there is a one-time cost for the whole family. And, we do hope that you go through the lessons as a whole family.
Bonus Science and Art of Geology Content
Through the Biblical Classical Community, I'm offering some bonus content:
Lesson 1: Introduction to the Science and Art of Geology: Communication
Lesson 2: Foundations: Creation Link, the Law of Nature and of Nature's God (Creation), and Revealed Law (Scripture)
Where to find the Science and Art of Geology Bundles
These collaborative bundles are available at the Biblical Classical Community website. This is a platform that is specifically created for Master Teachers who are trained in the approach to Biblical principles and reasoning (as envisioned by Verna M. Hall and Rosalie J. Slater).

Testimonial
Here's what one homeschool mom has to say about art classes that I teach:
“What I appreciated most about Heather’s art classes is her way of treating the students as talented, budding artists instead of beginners. Instead of choosing simple, childish projects, Heather encouraged the kids to tackle something more advanced. She did this by walking them step by step through the art project with an example of each step pre-made and on display. With calm, quiet instruction, Heather would help each student create really excellent art. Whether it was drawing, painting or sculpture, the kids’ delight and sense of accomplishment was wonderful!”
