Redeemed Podcast Review

Our family enjoys quality audio dramas, so we’re oftentimes on the lookout for more we can add to our list of enjoyment. One day an email popped up in my inbox from an Ed Kost, introducing our family to his Redeemed Podcast. So of course I had to investigate and then inform my readers about it.

Restoration Era on the History of Liberty Timeline

Providential History

Take a listen and learn more in this podcast episode:

A reminder to my readers: Christ gives internal liberty and His Word renews our minds. As a result, there’s an external expression of that internal liberty in life and learning. As Christian artists, restoring the arts to the Bible is one of several essential parts of being Ambassadors for Christ. Biblical Classical homeschoolers might be inspired by the example Ed Kost sets with his dramatized podcast.

About Ed Kost

Being newly introduced to Ed Kost, we’re getting to know him through his videos. We’ve learned that he’s an extremely creative brother-in-Christ! So far, he wrote, produced, narrated, and edited each episode. And on his website’s page he has the following video. I’m sharing it here so you can get to know him a bit, too.

The Cultish podcast host, with Apologia Studios, is friends with Edward Kost. Here is a shout out for the Redeemed Podcast by Cultish. FYI: You might want to keep your young or sensitive children out of earshot if you play the clip.

The Redeemed Podcast’s Purpose

From the Redeemed Podcast’s download page:

“Connecting listeners to the messages of Christ through immersive drama. Redeemed Podcast is an unforgettable Christian audio drama podcast experience for teenagers and adults.”

And unforgettable it is! If you hesitate about the portrayal of historical accounts from Scripture through the arts, please consider the points below.

Advocating for the Arts

The arts are an integral part of life because God created us in His image with the ability to create. That being said, we need to do this responsibly.

What do I mean by that?

In regard to relaying accounts through story, I mean handling the individuals in the historical accounts rightly, and not altering the teachings in the Bible.

The following is example of not handling biblical figures rightly, in my opinion: There’s a popular film dramatization that degrades the characters of the fishermen who ended up following Jesus Christ. The film portrayed them as breaking the Sabbath and trying to dodge taxes. However, there isn’t a historical record of them doing either. Approaching “creative license” in such a way is—in my opinion—bearing false witness as there isn’t a historical record giving such accounts.

So far it seems that Ed Kost is accomplishing “creative license” responsibly in this audio drama series—and that’s honorable. Thank you, Ed!

What My Readers Will Appreciate About The Redeemed Podcast

A couple of quick notes: 1. I recommend listening to them before introducing them to your children because you’re their parent; 2. Four recordings and publications currently exist:

  • Ezra the Leper (Dramatization inspired by the biblical account in Matthew 8:1-4. Keep in mind the Bible doesn’t mention the leper’s name.)
  • Rebecca’s Debt (Dramatization inspired by the biblical account in Luke 7:36-50. Read the notation for the episode at the link.)
  • Escape to Egypt (Dramatization inspired by the biblical account in Matthew 2:13-18.)
  • A King is Born (Eleven minutes long—wishing it was longer!)

There are several things I think fellow Biblical Classical homeschoolers will appreciate about the current episodes.

Key Points of Appreciation

  • Firstly, our family didn’t catch inaccurate portrayals according to the historical Scriptural accounts. That’s a great start!
  • Secondly, keep in mind that this is a dramatization so there’s some “creative license.” Creative license means the way the setting is imagined, some “everyday” conversations, or interactions. Again, it’s handled responsibly so far.
  • The talented and skilled voice actors’ passion for their work emanates throughout each episode.
  • Actual human voice actors are relaying the story. Thank you, Ed, for honoring God and your fellow man instead of using AI!
  • Episodes consist of an impressively high quality with engaging music and sound effects.
  • Listeners truly feel immersed in the accounts and can feel a healthy sense of empathy for the individuals.
  • Redeemed Podcast is an excellent entertainment alternative for Christian homeschool families.
  • Episodes can be great “hooks” for introducing related homeschool Bible lessons. Or enjoy them during dinner time as a family!

Many accounts in the Bible are moving. We all need Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. We need His forgiveness, redemption, regeneration, and renewing. Read other reviews below about how the Redeemed Podcast moves and impacts other individuals.
